The New Work Takes Shape Through Creativity and Freedom
It has been a few months now since we started rehearsing, and I have to say that, as far as I’m concerned, the pleasure of seeing each other is immense, and I am sure it is the same for the others too. But that is not all: there has been a huge change both in the sound and in the way we work. We are extremely relaxed and very thoughtful when deciding how the piece should flow; perhaps we are more mature now (and, let’s be honest, a bit older too). I think the environment I created also has a big influence, with its light, because the creative process unfolds in a very linear way. We are all very focused when we work, and there is no shortage of good spirits or genuine enthusiasm for getting things done. There are already four tracks in progress, which is a good start toward completing the new album in a relatively short time. The recording of each track is moving forward while waiting for the pre-mix; as they say, we are fine-tuning things, but they sound fluid and smooth, and as I like to say, they “please the ear” — and that, coming from someone who is hard of hearing, says a lot. Creating together is a lot of fun; there is no shortage of laughter, jokes, and enthusiasm, but the work is still moving ahead at a brisk pace. New ideas are being tested and discussed calmly. There is something in all of us that I especially like, and that is the mental flexibility we have, as well as the fact that no one imposes a specific way of doing things. It has always been one of our characteristics: each of us interprets the idea in their own way and blends it with the others. This is fantastic because it leaves room to collaborate in a completely natural way in the creative process. It is a way to keep improving and to contribute more and more quickly, in a completely free and spontaneous way. After all, the ultimate goal is to produce music we like, and if others like it too, even better. We were talking about it just last night: we are fully aware that we are atypical and that we make music in an unconventional way, not always easy to listen to, very often requiring more than one listen to catch certain nuances — the kind of music you either love or can’t stand — but it is our music, and we love it.
